The upcoming parliamentary elections in Germany, the first in 16 years in which Chancellor Angela Merkel will not be standing for re-election, hint at seismic shifts. Join us for a deep discussion on the following issues: What political future will the German voter possibly embrace? What is Merkel’s legacy as the longest-serving chancellor in Germany’s postwar period, and what will come after? How will Germany respond to global and domestic challenges, and in particular face the difficult but enduring question about how democracies can address forces that are themselves not committed to democracy?
