Dear Fulbright Alumni & One Fulbright Community,

we will have the exciting opportunity to visit the renowned American Academy located in a beautiful mansion near the Wannsee, which regularly offers fascinating lectures on transatlantic issues. The academy is a focal point of the transatlantic community in Berlin and is being frequented by several of our alumni. Therefore, we will be given a personal introduction to the American Academy and the history of the Hans Arnhold Center at 6:30pm by Julian Kramer (Program Coordinator of the American Academy) and R. Jay Magill (Senior Manager Communications and editor of the AA’s Berlin Journal). Check out the topic of the lecture “Dollar Dominance and the Future of American Power” below.

Please note that the available slots are strictly limited but that we have implemented a wait list in Luma. Please register there and provide your affiliation and an e-mail for updates. Thanks!

This is the description of the Axel Springer Lecture “Dollar Dominance and the Future of American Power” on April 25th:

“Commentators in recent years have predicted the decline of the US dollar as the world’s primary reserve currency. But Mark Copelovitch argues that the dollar’s dominance will persist for many decades to come, in large part because none of the supposed challengers – including the euro and renminbi – meet the economic or political requirements to supplant it. The dollar’s dominance creates opportunities for more ambitious economic policy at home and challenges the prevailing narrative about the inevitable decline of American hegemony in world politics. It also has important implications for how we view the rise of China and the future of transatlantic cooperation. In this talk, Copelovitch looks at the sources of the dollar’s enduring dominance and how recent global crises have actually further cemented its position.”
