Event Type

Dear Fulbrighters and friends,

We kindly invite you to the General Assembly and our 2022 Fulbright Alumni e.V. Jubilee and Mulert Award Ceremony, which will be held in Cologne on Saturday, May 21st.

After switching to a virtual format for last year’s General Assembly, we now look forward to in-person discussions. After months of restrictions, we are all excited to meet old Fulbright friends and forming new connections. We have put together a program spanning almost an entire weekend to give you ample opportunity to socialize before and after the General Assembly.

We will start off the weekend with a get-together in Brauhaus Hellers. Perhaps you are looking forward to trying Kölsch, the local beer in Cologne? Hellers Brauhaus is a brewery-pub with its own in-house brewery. It is located in the heart of Kwartier Latäng, Cologne’s popular student quarter. The menu offers classic Cologne dishes and snacks and some vegetarian and vegan options.

Saturday evening is the highlight of our General Assembly weekend. Our association was founded in 1986, and last year’s 35th anniversary could not be celebrated as we would have wished due to Covid-19 restrictions. We look forward to making up for that now! This celebration will be combined with dinner, drinks, a presentation from this year’s Mulert Award winner, and lots of good conversation. We will come together in the restaurant Consilium, which lies in the heart of Cologne between the cathedral and the Heumarkt. The restaurant belongs to a part of the historic town hall called Spanischer Bau. When you enter via Theo-Burauen-Platz, you will see the large windows belonging to the council hall in the section of the building to your right. Weather permitting, we will enjoy our German BBQ outside in the courtyard. Fingers crossed for good weather!

On Sunday, we will end the weekend with more socializing and some culture. Europe’s most extensive collection of Pop Art, the third-largest Picasso collection in the world, one of the most important collections of German Expressionism, outstanding works from the Russian avant-garde, and an excellent collection of the history of photography can be found in Cologne! The Museum Ludwig is home to one of the most important collections of twentieth- and twenty-first-century art in the world. Before exploring the highlights of the museum, we will meet for breakfast in the restaurant Ludwig im Museum, part of the museum with a separate entrance. Tours highlighting the rich history of Cologne, its culture and the aforementioned art will start after breakfast.

We are sure you will enjoy the weekend. Registration information can be
